Darksiders Warmastered Edition Review

Darksiders proves it’s still a blast six years later.

A lot of what THQ got so right here was simply used as a stepping stone to the semi-open world, loot centric mash’em’up that Darksiders 2 became, leaving behind its touchstones and evolving truly into its own beast.

Presentation:

Darksiders still looks fantastic, thanks to a phenomenal art style that still stands up today. The comic book stylings of Joe Mad still look slick as all hell, boosted by the improved textures and higher frame rate that this remastered edition offers. The frame rate doesn’t hold the steady 60FPS we might have been promised at all times, but for the most part it’s a smooth experience.

As I mentioned before, the voice work here is great too, and hasn’t aged in comparison to modern standards. The music is appropriately scored too, with the hearty soundtrack really fitting the viscious action perfectly.

Conclusion:

I’m pleased to say that Darksiders is still an absolute blast six years on. The fantastically designed dungeons still measure up to contemporary peers and the creepy characters that pave your way to victory are still as hellishly enjoyable as they always were. There’s a lack of depth to the combat that hurts this game in the long run –a complaint the sequel fortunately fixed –but it’s not a deal breaker. These solid foundations are bolstered by a good remaster and a ridiculously cheap price of £15.

Whether you’re new to the series or a veteran looking to enjoy it all over again, Darksiders is an easy recommendation.
