Project CARS 2 Review

Project 2:

I’m sitting down to write this review about five hours away from Forza 7’s launch, and I think if I were Microsoft I’d be a little nervous. Unfortunatley don’t expect a full review of Forza Motorsport 7 since Microsoft has decided not to give us a review code. However there’s still Project CARS 2!

A week ago Project Cars 2 hit store shelves, and it’s breadth of content, fantastic core gameplay and impressive, near-endless suite of features is simply mind-boggling.

Gameplay:

Project Cars was a dream game for a lot of racing fans on paper – its lengthy run-up to release saw trailers and previews that promised the world, and whilst it actually achieved an incredible amount of them the title still felt a little off, to me personally at least. It didn’t help that, without a steering wheel, you were looking at a pretty unforgiving and awkward game to play.

In just two years, developer Slightly Mad Studios have rallied to use these promising building blocks to produce this sequel, and what a sequel it is. Controller woes are safely in the rear view, with a responsive control scheme for those unwilling to shell out for an expensive wheel. Of course, should you decide to invest in one Project Cars 2 is a game that will pay dividends immediately. It’s a fantastic beast that handles beautifully, with a ridiculously generous offering of vehicles to get behind the wheel of and they’re all a lot of fun.

Some of the more egregious names missing from its forebear are all present and accounted for now, including Lamborghini and Porsche, but the title is still eager to have fun with classic vehicles and even go-karts. The track selection is equally as impressive, with one of the most diverse offerings I’ve seen in a contemporary racing title. Besides the usual European greats, you have tracks from Dubai, Japan, Canada and the highways of America – all of which look wildly diverse and are a whole lot of fun to drive around.

Project Cars 2 is a slightly intimidating prospect to newcomers, just from the sheer amount of options available to you from the get go. Daunting as it may be, I highly recommend diving in and getting lost in its mountains of hand-crafted content and customizable racing – from the cars you drive in to the weather you race through.
