Last Monday, we were invited to an exclusive post-Gamescom preview of all of Namco Bandai’s upcoming lineup. Without the pressure of timed demos in the convention centre, we sat down for a more relaxed playthrough of some of this year’s most anticipated titles.

Read on for our thoughts.

Twin Mirror” has a more realistic visual feel than Dontnod’s seminal work Life is strange, but you can very much tell that the writing and feel of the game is from the same studio.

Rather than focusing on kids this time out, the protagonist is a more chiselled adult, but this is no ordinary video game hero. He clearly has a number of skeletons in the closet, and has an imaginary friend/ guardian that clearly has somewhat of a past with him.

The core feature of the game is digging back into the past, into your own memories – kind of like time rewind feature, but at the same time, very, very different.
You spend your time recreating the past in your “mind palace”, which reminds me of some of the investigation sequences in Assassins Creed Origins or even the Batman telltale adventure games, as you try to find clues, put them in the right order, and build up a sequence of events.

The storyline looks like it may get pretty dark – you have an unexplained bloody shirt in your cheap motel room, and whilst the outside world looks pretty regular, the mind palace certainly doesn’t conform to real world expectations or physics.

Twin Mirror” was really intriguing, and as a big fan of Life is Strange, I’m really excited to see where this one goes.
