Scarlet Nexus Review

The very first new generation Anime game ...

So where is the awesomeness? Magic happens when you use items to attack and combine them with the other options. With the right trigger of the control you will be able to take objects that you find thrown throughout the levels, they can be tubes, ice figures, bicycles, cars, in short, anything, and throw them at the enemy. The behavior of the levitating objects looks very good, and as you use it it feels more natural. In addition, you will have interactions in quick time events with special objects that will do a lot of damage or will leave the enemy stunned; some are special and will only occur with very powerful Others.

For example, you can explode a pipe with gasoline, slide into a truck and run over enemies, take masses of water and drop them to wet them, cause elemental damage with electric attacks and even guide a drone.

The movements that are available to unlock are really useful and they make me feel that my character is progressing and learning to fight better and better. During the first missions the combos are very brief, but in the last hours of the game they could be very long and lethal, and all this was so enjoyable.

Presentation:

In regards to the visual and technical aspects of Scarlet Nexus, Bandai Namco did not disappoint me when it came to making me feel like I was playing a next generation anime video game . From the first minutes of the game, only because of the type of animations used, the particle effects, the staging and the modeling of the characters, progress could be observed with respect to previous titles of the company.

The set designs are pretty slick , especially Suoh City, a brain-punk-style city that has quite a few NPCs and elements moving around the screen (although with little interaction). There is some degree of popping, but Bandai Namco paints it very stylishly by using holograms that are displayed very naturally throughout the city. For this reason it saddens me to a certain extent that the maps were not exploited a little more, because they could have become more than mere corridors without much soul.

In addition, the title takes full advantage of a great performance in which 60 images per second are guaranteed at all times , and this helps a lot to make the fighting even more spectacular.

I also want to highlight the sound section, since it is immersive and the sound effects such as blows, sounds of glass breaking, screams and roars give life to battles. And not only that, musical pieces of different genres convey different appropriate moods throughout the game. An example of this is the Dream In Drive themefrom Jrock’s band The Oral Cigarettes, but there are also pieces of jazz, rock, techno, and offbeat genre combinations worth checking out later.

And one aspect in which Japanese-style video games always comply is in the interpretations of seiyuus (actors and voice actresses). The Japanese are very skilled when it comes to causing impact and emotion, and that is always appreciated when immersing themselves in a story. The other available option is the voices in English, which also fully comply when it comes to giving life to the cast of Scarlet Nexus characters. And when it comes to the soundtrack, the game has melodies that go well with the action of the fighting and with the free exploration, although perhaps some melodies are repeated more during the story scenes.

Conclusion:

Scarlet Nexus” is a game that I enjoyed and keeps you attentive to the development of the story. Of course, you should keep in mind that, unlike other action games or even other RPGs, it spends hours and hours to tell you all the details about its universe. Think you’ll spend a lot of time reading before taking action, which may scare some away. It took me about 30 hours to finish the first round, so we talk about a long game or the average of a JRPG, as long as you don’t skip the conversations.

The progression system is very well done and you will have a good time in the battles. It may seem repetitive, but with so many options in battle you won’t even realize it, especially because of the animations and variety of attacks.

I think a sequel with the corrections, balance between action, narrative development and perhaps a freer world would help improve the experience.
